Though Battle Network Online owes its original concept and idea to the Mega Man Battle Network games, there are many differences between the two that will always remain. The following are examples of such differences:

:: Perspective - The perspective of Battle Network Online is so-called "oblique isometric", a perspective that games such as The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past have used. The Mega Man Battle Network games all play out the so-called "true isometric" perspective. I have recieved many complaints about this in the past, but this perspective is here to stay. I believe it helps to keep things fresh to MMBN veterans.

:: Screen Size - Battle Network Online has an exceedingly larger screen size than any of Mega Man Battle Network games. The purpose of this is to better accomodate an online community and online gameplay, including chat. Let us not forget that, unlike MMBN, BNO is created for a platform with a much larger screen resolution than the Battle Network series on the Gameboy Advance.

:: Visual Content - Nearly all graphics used within Battle Network Online are original contributions of the creator and other volunteers. Exceptions such as navi, teleporter, and data sprites exist to keep a logical connection between BNO and the MMBN games. Further graphical content used within BNO will continue to be original works - this helps to keep visual interest for those tired of the commonalities throughout the MMBN seires.

:: Menu System - While still in development, it is sure that the menu system (or "Dataspace") within Battle Network Online will pay no hommage to that of the Mega Man Battle Network games. With true online functionality (and lack of Personal Exploration Terminals) comes many possibilities for new and exciting features unprecedented in any of the MMBN series.

These are among the many differences between Battle Network Online and the Mega Man Battle Network series. Many more exist, and many may come to be. Such cases may be added to this page in the future.
